The European Union has made a decision to limit the number of visas available to Ethiopian citizens because the government does n’t cooperate with the country’s government when it repatriates those who stay illegally, the EU Council said on Monday.
The shift comes as German governments attempt to address the issue of migrants attempting to enter Europe via risky bridges over the Mediterranean Sea, frequently organized by criminal gangs, from war-torn African nations.
The Commission’s evaluation led to the adoption of this decision, which concluded Ethiopia’s cooperation with the EU’s countries ‘ efforts to readmit its citizens who are currently residing in the EU was insufficient.
A revised immigration method was approved by German lawmakers earlier this month. This, according to the pro-EU political center, may reduce the number of migrants arriving without recognized records as it attempts to stop gains by much right in the run-up to the bloc’s legislative elections in June.
