The Chicago Police Department has made more than 1, 000 prosecutions of Venezuelan refugees in the first three months of 2024, crime statistics that , the Chicago Tribune , published , reveals.
The Tribune only reviewed crime statistics of the monastery state’s Cuban people, as 40, 000 have arrived since August 2022. According to Chicago City Councilman Raymond Lopez ( D), who has pushed for the elimination of the city’s sanctuary policy and halting the flow of illegal immigration, “quality of life laws” are not being upheld, and as a result, crime is roiling around migrant shelters.
According to Lopez, “politically, we have an atmosphere where we make excuses for those low-level acts as something that should be forgiven or ignored without realizing that it has a really genuine snowball effect in our districts,” Lopez said.
