Early this morning, police detained protesters who had refused to comply with orders to leave the University of New Mexico student coalition.
In an ongoing rally against Israel and the school’s laws, which included an encampment starting next week, activists attempted to hold the student union yesterday.
According to press reports and website content, individuals set up tents inside the student union building but were detained and taken out.
” Sell, we will not halt, we will not rest”, individuals chanted as they marched into the student union tower.

Earlier in the day an activist said,” In case you’re wondering, we do n’t plan on going anywhere”, according to a video posted by UNM Solidarity Encampment.

According to KUNM, the school radio place,” Approximately 40 protesters remained after organizers began sharing ideas for how to manage police contacts and what to expect after getting arrested.”

A UNM Police car parked outside the tower reportedly sounded the alarm to the camp to evacuate around 3 a.m.
” People left in the Student Union Building after 30 days may be deemed to be a criminal trespasser on the home of the University of New Mexico.” This is a legal act”, an officer’s message boomed over a loudspeaker. ” If you do not agree with this purchase, you will be arrested. You may be used against you. You are also in contravention of the University of New Mexico policies and procedures, and as a result, you could face possible operational restrictions.
Police in riot gear enter a creation before moving in to replace the trespassers, according to a video from KUNM.
Instagram video also feature authorities removing the tower in riot gear and occasionally kicking activists to the ground.
On the eighth day of the continuous Gaza Solidarity Encampment, University of New Mexico students have taken over the Student Union Building.

The team wrote on Instagram that” #UNM Student Union Building has been occupied in solidarity with our friends across the world who are ensuring that# Gaza is no forgotten.”
