In response to out-of-control and violent anti-Israel protests taking place at universities across the country over the last two weeks, Republican House rulers on Tuesday expanded their investigation into prevalent hatred on campus.
The expansion builds on a number of House Education and Workforce Committee hearings held since December that examined the intense and serious campus antisemitism that has been sparked since the Oct. 7 murder of 1,200 Israeli citizens and the succeeding Israel-Hamas war.
House Education and the Workforce Committee Chair Virginia Foxx stated at a press conference on Tuesday that Congress did not handle your disrespect for your Israeli students. British universities are formally informed that we have come to take our institutions back.
” We have actually put our colleges on realize that we have come to take our institutions back,” the statement read. @edworkforcecmte Chairwoman @virginiafoxx. photograph. twitter.com/UFTDKx77St

A House Education council receiving titled” Calling for Accountability: Stopping Antisemitic College Chaos” has been scheduled for May 23 at which the president of Yale, UCLA, and Michigan are set to speak.
” No gemstone must be left undone as buildings are being destroyed,” Foxx said.” College is not a play-acting park for play-acting children or a battleground for extreme activists.”
Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson, who recently visited Columbia University amid rebellious demonstrations that continued on Tuesday, spearheaded the expanded investigation. This included the arrest of an activist building on the school. Johnson, at the Tuesday press conference, cited the latest violence at Columbia and a lack of police enforcement as a major concern and called the protesters “terrorist sympathizers” . ,
” They are happily chanting’ Death to America,'” Johnson said. “…Antisemitism is a virus”.
Johnson “announced a chamber- vast effort to combat racism, with the chairs of various committees in presence to details how they will contribute to the investigation”, The Hill reported Tuesday, adding:
House Majority Leader , Steve Scalise , ( R- La. ) alleged that the Republican leadership threatened to withdraw cash if the schools do n’t take control of the schools and that the committees are asked to investigate the “billions of federal tax dollars that go to these colleges.”
Johnson lamented that universities do n’t let police patrol their campuses to look after protesters, calling it one of the policy changes Republicans want to see.
” Those are the policy changes that we’re demanding, and if they do n’t quickly correct this, you’ll see Congress respond in kind. You’ll start to clean up your revenue sources. You’ll discover every level of accountability that we can conjure, and that’s what these boards and these excellent chairpersons are going to be involved in, and we’ll advise you to stay tuned and you’ll see a lot more, Johnson said.
Fox News reported that the boards involved are Education &, the Workforce, Energy &, Commerce, Oversight, the Judiciary, Ways &, Means and the commission on Science, Space &, Technology.
