After times of kowtowing to racist protesters who hacked into Israeli students and seized control of Hamilton Hall, Columbia University finally gave in and made mature decisions to allow law enforcement to step in amid the chaos.
Prior to Tuesday evening, Columbia officials had been refusing to contact in the NYPD. However, after the school was forced to close the campus to all but the residents ‘ and essential workers, Columbia authorities finally gave in.

” More than 100 people were arrested at Columbia University and City College of New York on Tuesday night, according to a law enforcement official, as rallies against Israel’s assault of Gaza intensified across college campuses nationwide”, CNN reported. ” Authorities in riot gear entered Columbia University’s Hamilton Hall and used beam curls to break into the structure, where pro-Palestine protesters had barricaded themselves. Less than two hours after officials entered the university’s school in Morningside Heights, Columbia University’s house was cleared”.

Columbia President Minouche Shafik has generally been unattended as her class has become the center of nationwide demonstrations, but she wrote a letter to NYPD Deputy Commissioner Michael Gerber asking for assistance.
” The events on campus]Monday ] night have left us no choice. With the help of the University’s Trustees, I have determined that the tower activity, the encampments, and related disruptions pose a clear and present danger to persons, house, and the large functioning of the University and involve the use of emergency authority to protect persons and property”, she wrote. ” With the highest dread, we request the NYPD’s help to clear all persons from Hamilton Hall and all college camps. We are aware that the NYPD intends to use its LRAD technology to remind residents of the camps that they must separate as part of this process.

Later on Tuesday, the college released a statement that also stated “regret.”
” We regret that activists have chosen to escalate the situation through their actions. After the University learned miraculously that Hamilton Hall had been occupied, vandalized, and blockaded, we were left with no choice. A part of our facilities staff was threatened, and Columbia public security personnel were forced to leave the building. We wo n’t take the chance of our community’s safety or the possibility of an even greater escalation,” the statement said.
The Board of Trustees and safety experts consulted with law enforcement and the management team to determine the best course of action to safeguard our students and the Columbia University group as they met throughout the night and into the morning. We made the decision, early in the morning, that this was a rules police problem, and that the NYPD were best positioned to identify and implement an ideal response”.
As Columbia more stated,” We believe that the team that broke into and occupied the tower is led by individuals who are not affiliated with the University,” the protests have come to represent both contempt for Israel and America itself.
A student president called on the college to provide the Hamilton Hall occupiers with food and water at an almost comical press event on Tuesday, prompting The Atlantic senior director David Frum to say,” The trend will become catered.
