New York City Mayor Eric Adams speaks during a news conference at City Hall in New York, Dec. 12, 2023.
At the recent pro-Palestine protests at Columbia University, CNN anchor Erin Burnett pressed New York City Mayor Eric Adams ( D) about his claims of being “outside agitators.”
Do you currently have the ability to show us how many of those were “outside agitators” and how many were Columbia University kids? Burnett said on her CNN present Wednesday, in a picture highlighted by Mediaite.
Adams responded that there was” clear evidence of coaching that was conducted by an outside ideologue, that was not a scholar, did not belong on the campus.”
” In addition to that, we saw individuals participating and allowing people access to Hamilton Hall”, Adams continued, referring to the tower on Columbia’s college that was taken over by protest on Tuesday night.
Adams then said he “received a letter from the school” and that in that letter, the school claimed that there were “outside individuals who were on the grounds ,]participating }]in ] this activity”.
Burtnett then inquired as to how many students who had been detained on Tuesday evening were really Columbia students.
” Here’s what we can do, we’re allowed to do”, Adams said. The class will make the dedication if we give the entire list of those who have been arrested and move it over to the school. We’re not going to launch person’s name]s], but the university may make the dedication of giving you a break … of the difference between students and non- individuals. They may be given that permission to do so.”
Adams ‘ comments come after the New York Police Department ( NYPD ) cracked down on pro-Palestine protesters at Columbia University the night before.
The New York president claimed at a press conference on Tuesday that the outside agitators were” co-opted by skilled outside protestors.”
