Former President Donald Trump endorsed Riverton, Utah, Mayor and Senatorial member Trent Staggs, who is running to remove Sen. Mitt Romney ( R- UT).
In a post on Truth Social on Saturday, Trump described Staggs as being 100 percentage “MAGA” and a “highly effective entrepreneur”, while slamming Romney as a” full coward”.
” Trent Staggs is 100 % MAGA, and is running to fill The Mitt Romney, a Total Loser, Seat as the next Senator from the Great State of Utah! A Highly Successful Entrepreneur, who has served magnificently as Mayor of Riverton for the past six times”, Trump wrote.
According to his site, Staggs has been president for four years and has served on the Riverton area committee for six decades.
As governor of Riverton, Staggs has operated under a “business- oriented approach”, and has lowered fees while “increasing solutions for people”.
” Trent knows how to Create Jobs, Stop Prices, Grow the Economy, and Secure the Border”, Trump continued. ” As your next Senator, Trent will help us Unleash American Energy, Support our Military/Vets, and Protect our always under siege Second Amendment. Trent Staggs has received my full and complete support. He will not disappoint you as a Senator.
Staggs has criticized Romney, a staunch defender of the previous president, on many occasions.
In a July 2023 interview with Breitbart News, Staggs claimed that Utah voters feel” 100 percentage” betrayed by Romney’s record and his inability to invest time in the state.
Additionally, Staggs has said that Romney is “out of effect” with state Republican voters.
After Romney revealed in September 2023 that he would not been running for reelection, Staggs responded by saying that Utah was “ready” to have an” America First candidate”.
Prior to receiving Trump’s endorsement, Staggs received an endorsement from Ric Grenell, who served as the former acting director of national intelligence under the Trump presidency.
