He criticizes trans philosophy, quoted n- phrase from Jesse Jackson
Students at the University of Wisconsin- Green Bay want a teacher fired for making offensive social media posts that they find racist and transphobic.
Andrew Austin, a professor in the school’s Democracy &, Justice Studies program, allegedly made students feel “unsafe” by, among other things, posting information on X ( Twitter )  , from the “anti- LGBTQ group” Libs of TikTok, according to NBC 26.
The report does n’t cite specific “offensive” posts, however, Austin’s X account does feature tweets and retweets critical of transgender ideology ( below ).
UWGB junior James Harris said he was “putting ]his ] social justice emphasis to use” against Austin claiming” there’s a certain point where]Austin’s ] opinions become actual opinions become actual problems for students on campus”.
Harris , added individuals need to feel secure in order to learn “how to become people” and “how to become functional members of society”, but Professor Austin “directly opposes that”.
Ironically, Harris ( pictured ) recently was named a UWGB Newman Civic Fellow due to his emphasis on the “importance of civil discourse”.
Emma Embers, a UWGB trans- female student, said ( s ) he does n’t “necessarily feel” safe around Austin. Flames also said attempting to find Austin fired is n’t” cancel culture, it’s accountability”.
Embers and Harris moreover pointed to Austin’s blog, especially a 16- yr- ancient post in which they note the professor used the n- word 11 times.
However, a reading of the article reveals that Austin uses the word to quote Jesse Jackson and provides commentary on Jackson’s then-critics of Barack Obama, creating an educational/intellectual perspective.
A petition calling for Austin’s departure has garnered about 30 names, according to the document.

Austin told NBC 26 that his position at this school is certainly related to his social media presence. I wo n’t participate in furthering cancel culture”.
According to the review, the school’s employee social media policy states that “personal expression or opinions of a UW-Green Bay employee may be misinterpreted as an administrative voice or opinion whether they are on a UW-Green Bay official website or a personal website that designates them as UW-Green Bay employees.”
Neither Austin’s site nor his X accounts identify him as a UWGB teacher.
Contacted by The College Fix for comment, Austin ( pictured ) said he’s” trying to stay above the fray” as the entire situation is “absurd”:
My hope is that [UWGB administrators ] do n’t get so uprooted that they work together to try to oust a professor from office because they violated his constitutional right to freedom of speech on social media. Academic flexibility protects disagreeable conversation, perhaps if I said some of these items in school. The institution is lost if the university does n’t take the liberty to uphold the values of free speech and academic freedom.
It’s physically demoralizing to see kids act in this manner. Educators failed them along the way if they do n’t understand why they’re in college. In fact, I believe that K-12 is largely to blame for failing to teach young Americans the value of essential thinking and stance variety. You’ve always hoped that students take care to uphold the classic liberal principles that guide Western society, and many of them, to their credit, do so.
