Officers and Brown University students made a bargain on Tuesday as pro-Palestine protests persisted throughout the nation. Demonstrators agreed to take down Brown’s camp, which had already been taken down by Tuesday night, and college officials said they would explore and then vote on whether to divest funds from businesses connected to the Israeli military strategy in Gaza. In Northwestern University’s suburban Chicago school, two empty houses remained, surrounded by abandoned sliding chairs, instances of bottled waters and other items. Late on Monday, student organizers and the school made an announcement to reduce opposition activity in exchange for a new advisory council to review school purchases and other commitments. The deal permits protests to persist through June 1, but it forbids all tents, with the exception of one, from carrying aid. Additionally, it forbids people without relations to Northwestern from participating.
