US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday, making this his most recent stop on a Western Asian journey as President Biden tries to stop Israel from annexing Rafah, a city in southern Gaza where Palestinians have sought refuge during the conflict.
In exchange for a six-week peace and the transfer of some Israeli captives, Blinken and other major Biden administration assistants are also calling on Hamas to accept a deal to free some victims from the attacks on October 7. US authorities say they anticipate a temporary ceasefire to become a lasting one. On Tuesday, Netanyahu said that he plans a big abuse on Rafah” with or without” a bargain.
Israeli officials announced Monday that they had agreed to lower their expectations after months of negotiations have been stalled. They are now requesting that Hamas release 33 civilians, including women, older persons, and those who require immediate medical attention more than 40.
One of the problems that Blinken and Israeli President Isaac Herzog discussed on Wednesday at a motel in Tel Aviv was the proposed agreement.
Before the appointment with Herzog, Blinken advised the president and investigators that discussions should concentrate on a ceasefire that “brings the hostages home” as well as on expanding aid to Gaza. ” There is a request on the table, and as we’ve said, no difficulties, no apologies”, Blinken said. Herzog argued that the global community should take particular interest in the victims ‘ release. After speaking with Herzog, Blinken traveled to Jerusalem where he had a private conference with Netanyahu and met with a few community members of British hostages held in Gaza. Since Netanyahu is urging the US to launch an offensive in Rafah, Blinken and another US officials claim Hamas has a tight window to take the offer. When asked about Netanyahu’s remarks regarding Rafah, Blinken claimed that the US work were centered on a hostage-freeze accord.
